"Jane Wills Herron," oil painting on stretched oval shaped canvas, by an unknown artist of the American school. "On paper on back of picture (in file) reads: portrait of Jane Wills Herron my Grandmother and yours to go to illegible...Oak Park, Illinois.'" The painting is dated circa 1862 and the framed dimensions are 22 1/2" high by 19 1/2 in wide. It is a "vertical oval shaped composition depicting a portrait of a late middle—aged woman with rosy cheeks attired in a simple brown dress with a white lace collar and lace bonnet. She is posed with her shoulders sitting to the viewer's right while her face looks straight ahead. The back ground behind her is slightly backlit and modulates from a light brown at the viewer's left to a darker brown at the viewer's right."
