Enlisted and was sworn into service the 12th day of August 1862. Went into camp at Peoria the 15th day of August. Was mustered into the service of the U.S. as a musician of Company E, 77th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry the 2nd day of September. Was appionted Principle Musician the 9th day of September by Colonel F.P. Grier (Grandfather of Donors Gerald M. and Mary L. Allen)
