A first day of issue envelope for the 1943 Albania five cent stamp. The Albania stamp was one of the Overrun Countries series. Albania was at the time of this stamp’s issue under communist rule. This stamp was designed to increase awareness in their plight. The symbols to the sides are the phoenix and a woman “breaking the shackles of oppression.” The phoenix symbolized rebirth. The woman symbolised overthrowing communistic rule. The unique element of this sires of stamps was that the Bureau of Engraving and Printing did not have the necessary resources to print the colors required for flags. So, the Overrun Countries series was outscored to the independent American Bank Note Company. The address on the envelope reads, “Jon Riggs Ziegele High Point Road Peoria 4, Illinois. The envelope is postmarked, ” Washington D. C. Nov. 9 9 AM 1943.”
