Victorian-Second French Empire. This piece has a bookcase top, slant-front section; cupboard base. the cornice has an ornate pediment using Egyptian decorative detail with a central panel of burl veneer. the doors have single rectangular panes of glass framed with an overlapping and slightly projecting molding. There are rosette shaped details at the top corners. The doors have inset keyholes. Along the sides of the bookcase section are corniced pillars. The joining of bookcase and the slant front section is a slightly projecting molding along front and sides. the slant front is at a nearly 60-degree angle; its face is decorated with a rectangular slightly sunk panel. This panel has a band of burl veneer. Above is the keyhole. The desk interior has a central open area flanked by three pigeon holes on each side above shallow drawers. At the ends are accounting-book pigeon holes with cyma=curves. The writing area is felted. The slant front overhangs the cupboards below; the fronts of the carcase sides are pillared. cupboards have plain panels of burl veneer with inset keyholes. Piece has plain, slightly projecting base with molded upper edge.
