Gray matte satin brocade with woven floral design; square neckline; fitted, boned bodice that comes to a sharp point on front and back; skirt has three tiers of ruffles trimmed in ribbon; 1857. BBack closure by 16 all gown worn to a Lincoln reception in Charleston, Illinois hooks and eyes, sleeves are dropped and bell shaped and three quarter length sleeves with three poufs at top
Note on dress states: While attednig a reception for Abraham Lincoln in Charleston, Illinois (then county for Coles County ) between 1858 and 1864, Mary Jones had a tray of lemonade glasses accidentally spill on her dress. The stains have never came out.
