This flax hatchel(hackle) is made of oak onto which hand forged iron spikes have been mounted. Spikes were hand forged by a Blacksmith. Includes wooden box to cover spikes when not in use. Flax was drawn in great handfuls across the sharp points, leaving behind its tow. The long flax fibers which remained in the hand of the worker were ready to be spun into linen thread
