One small ceramic fruit storage jar produced by the Peoria Pottery Company. The base of the jar has twelve sides and widens toward a central point. At this point the jar slopes toward the top. The top of the jar has a lip for a wax sealer lid. the ridge would have been filled with wax and a lid would have been placed in this wax. when the wax dried, the jar was sealed. This was among the earliest methods for sealing jars. The jar is glazed with a brown glaze known as the “Peoria glaze.” The bottom of the jar is glazed But the edge of the base the glaze is worn off through use. The bottom of the jar is stamped, “Peoria Pottery.” The jar has holes at the top which would have originally held a metal handle.
