AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
December 14th 1918

My Dear Parents:
Saturday afternoon, in
spections all over with for today
and not much of anything to do.
We are now back with the comp-
any at Vaynes. All of the men, who
have been attacht to the different
battalions for special duty have
all been called back. We have
given up our life of ease and now
go back to work for a while.
We reported back here
Thursday afternoon and straight
ened out our belongings. Friday
morning at 7.30 a.m. we were
all cald together and marcht
about six miles, to St. Suppice,”

lots of snow, cousing a lot of
work to keep the walks clean.
Rather wish we had a little
of that king of weather here,
for this ceaseless rain and
slush is rather discouraging.
But then this is the kind of
winter weather they have in
this part of France.
Frank Volz and Joe Wegstein
are doing some Carpenter work
around our billet and I see
them frequently. We usually
have a good old family chat about
different things around home
and what is going on then.
Haven’t had any mail now
for about two weeks so didn’t
have anything new to tell them.

a large camp down the road.
Here we had a chance to take
a dandy fine shower bath and
then hiked back in time for
dinner. There was beaucoup
slush and water to march thru
too, as it has been raining pretty
regular again for the last week.
This morning as usual
was inspection day and we
had to stand it. No formation
this afternoon, so nothing much
to do.
The kitchen is in one end
of our billet, and we have been
watching the cooks prepare for
the big dinner tomorrow. going
to have a regular Thanksgiving
dinner then some affair too,
Well just how is everybody
at home at present. Every
body well and enjoying this
fine winter weather. No doubt
you are now having your”

Vera Pat. was teaching school
there again this year. I had
forgotten if she was to teach
or not.
Do they have a Basket
Ball Team in High School, this
year and are they playing any
games? Would like awfully
well to be there to play against
them on practice nites. I wonder
do the girls have another team
this year. I used to have more
fun when they playd a schedule
game, than when the boys playd.
It was great sport to tease
Stubly Malone about being so short
and Corena Heintz about her
temper and the rest about some
thing or other.
Just how did the sign

“the S.A.T.C. at Camp Bradely?
Dp the fellows have a chance to
finish this years schooling or is
it dismist or going to be dismist?
Hope the boys can finish this
school team since they have the
start.
Are any of the fellows from
the camps in the states home
yet or are they still in the
camps. I believe they are to be
sent home at once, it maybe
that I am mistaken about that,
but at least I was told that
was the way it would probably
be done.

“I have written to him twice
now, but so far haven’t had an
answer. I am anxiously waiting
for I would like to hear from
him awfully well.
Havent heard from James
for some time either. Rather
expect a letter from him most
any day tho.
I believe I owe Ella a
letter, well I will write to her
in a day or two. Sent her
a Xmas card a few days ago.
How is Ida, is she
still in good health? Hope she
don’t take down with any
sickness now that the
worst is over with.
Is Anna staying with
you now? That will mean
a lot to the both of you and
make the home a lot more
cheerful for there will always”

“be spludging around there for
a while, telling all about the
great things they have done, while
in the camps at home. But you
can beleive me, I wouldn’t trade
my place with any of them for
anything.
So Aunt Sue has been down
at the house, telling me all about
her sons and how well they
have been doing. Don’t in the
least let any of that bother you
at all.
Some of these days I will
tell you some things you can
tell her, but anyway, you
don’t have to take a back seat
for her at any time. She makes
me have a pain, most of the time.
Say I wonder if Louis
has heard from Clarence
since she wrote to me last.”
