Hundreds were made in the U.S. from the 1830’s. The case has a hinged flap concealing the keyboard with square corners and a plain edge, and an ornamented trim about 2 inches from the bottom edge. The case is supported on openwork trestles which are scroll-cut, lyre-shaped and braced by a cyma-curved stretcher. The pedals are attached at the center. It has a four-octave ivory keyboard.
