A percussion cap rifle. 125.5 cm. long. 10.5 cm. wide at the end of the stock. the barrel, and hammer plate are made out of steel. The hammer is made out of iron. the trigger guard, ramrod pipes, stock plate, screws, and decorative plates are made out of brass. the stock and ramrod are wood. on the lock plate are the words,”Thomas Underwood Lafayette Ind.” Next to the Ind. is a small letter “A” with a line underneath. On the underside of the barrel, “Thomas Underwood,” and, “R. A.”
Engraved (Stamped) on the top of the barrel by the rear sight – “RY LEY AULTEM :1852” Slight space between RY and LEY but it is most likely RYLEY.
