This copper cylinder is mounted on a shaped copper base. Copper handles is attached to the side of the cylinder. Thermometer is mounted inside of cylinder.

Cylinder was used to determine proof of alcohol at Hiram Walker and Sons. The thief was emptied into cylinder and temperature was recorded and specific gravity was measured with a hydrometer. The two figures were compared to tables which appeared in Gauger’s manual.
